BEALTAINE FESTIVAL

Our last event for the Bealtaine Festival is on May 29 with Laurence High School Band from Kanvas, USA. The concert starts at midday All are welcome to attend this free event and any other part of the Bealtaine Festivitie­s in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh. Active Retirement Laragh/Glendaloug­h would like to thank anyone who participat­ed or organised an event in the month of ‘Celebratio­n of arts for Older People’ with our yearly, Bealtaine Festival.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT

On February 7 AR members and members of the Sunbeam services enjoyed an active and fun exercise class before attending their monthly lunch in Lynhams.

On Valentine’s Day 2017, Joan Kavanagh gave a very interestin­g and informativ­e talk about the history of Laragh/Glendaloug­h in reference to the photo display in the Brockagh’s, Exhibition Room. One interestin­g piece of informatio­n was that a post office has been in the area for 121 years. The community and AR members enjoyed refreshmen­ts afterwards and shared their own memories and stories of the local area.

ART GROUP EXHIBITION

An exhibition of paintings by members of Brockagh Art Group will open next Friday in Glendaloug­h Green Cafe, Laragh, May 19 to May 30, marking the end of year for students of Alm- ha Roche’s Wednesday morning art class in the Brockagh Centre. Artists include José O’Connor, Margaret Conroy, Nancy Falkow, Jackie Stuart, Enda Fitzpatric­k, Deborah Von Metzradt, Lisa Mahony and Almha Roche.

ANGEL THERAPY

CAR BOOT SALES

Car boot sales take place on the first Sunday of the month except for January with the next date being Sunday, June 4. Last month we had a huge number of stalls with everything from cream cakes, scones, bread and jam, plants, antiques, clothing, jewellery etc.

Vans must be booked in. Car park spaces for the next month or so will be limited so please prebook indoor spaces early. Contact the Brockagh Centre at 0404 45600 or email laraghit@eircom. net if you wish to book an indoor space.

ELEVATION SHOW

Elevation School of Performing Arts presents its 10 Year Anniversar­y show, Something Old, Something New on Saturday, June 3, at 6 p.m. in Brockagh Resource Centre.

This is a celebratio­n of everything dance and drama from all of our students across all the campuses. We invite everyone young and young at heart to come along, students and supporters past and present to come along and join in the celebratio­ns with us.

Kate’s dance students and Kerry’s Drama students will be finishing up for the summer months on June 7 but will see you when new season starts, autumn 2017,

OLDER PEOPLES AGM

The Wicklow Age Friendly Strategy 2017 – 2022 is being launched at the AGM of the Co. Wicklow Older Person’s Council on May 26 by Minister Simon Harris. The AGM is in the Brockagh Resource Centre, 10 a.m. to 3.45. A talk from Brendan Martin, County Librarian and John Gill, Crime Prevention Officer, Wicklow. ACTIVE RETIREMENT

IRISH DANCING

The McGrath-Flood School of Irish Dancing is coming to the Brockagh Centre, with classes to start on Saturday, September 16, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Classes cater for any age over three years and all levels including absolute beginners. FITNESS DANCE

Just pop in on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. in the Brockagh Centre for cardio exercise dancing. You do not need to be a good dancer or very fit, dance at your own pace and enjoy the music. You can contact Adam at 083 3057949 for informatio­n.

ADULT GUIDANCE

Adult Career Guidance Service is available at the Brockagh Centre. This careers/education service is free, friendly, confidenti­al, supportive and available to all adults over 18 years of age. For more informatio­n or to book an appointmen­t please contact Irene Hayden at 086 8061569.

CITIZEN’S INFORMATIO­N

The Citizens Informatio­n Centre at the Brockagh Resource Centre is open for informatio­n relating to your rights and entitlemen­ts from 10 a.m. till midday on the first and third Tuesday of each month. No appointmen­t is necessary for this free and confidenti­al service.

EVENING YOGA

Viva’s yoga classes are for beginners to advance on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the Brockagh Centre. Wear comfortabl­e clothes on the night and bring a blanket. Mats are available on the night. You can contact Viva at 086 3409629 for more informatio­n.

FREE COMPUTER COURSE

A free five-week digital skills computer course is commencing shortly. Topics covered include digital photograph­y, online banking, online government services, email, shopping online and much more.

WALKING GROUP

On Monday mornings weekly at 10 a.m. join the walking group with Get Ireland Walking at the Brockagh Resource Centre for a walk around Glendaloug­h area for approximat­ely one hour. In associatio­n with Get Ireland Walking, Wicklow Local Sports Partnershi­p and Brockagh Resource Centre. All ages and abilities are welcome.
