A MAN found with €25 worth of cannabis has been given the chance to avoid a conviction if he makes a donation to the court poor box.

Batan Ansary, with an address given in court as Masala House, Riverwalk, Arklow, but who the court heard no longer lives in the town, was charged with possession of drugs on Main Street, Arklow, on August 31, 2015.

Arklow District Court heard that the defendant moved to Ireland 12 years ago from Bangladesh. He told the court that he is still awaiting citizenship. Judge Kennedy said that a conviction would likely affect this and offered him the opportunity to make a donation by October.
