School community marks students’ achievements
THEY might have been under dark clouds on the seafront at St David’s Secondary School last week but the atmosphere was light and cheerful as the entire school community gathered together to celebrate their achievements in the 2016/2017 year.
Presentation Day is a day that each and every student and teacher looks forward to. It allows every form of participation in St David’s to be awarded.
Categories ranged from sporting achievements for teams and individuals, including the prestigious ‘Sportsperson of the Year Award’, to involvement in extracurricular activities (chess, photography, hobbies, languages to name a few) to awards for curricular achievements (such as participation in STEM subjects).
It was also a day where the school community said goodbye and thank you to their outgoing Student Liason Group and were reminded of the continuation of the school’s traditions with the election of a new cohort of students to the position, including the naming new Head Boy Cian Gaines, Deputy Head Boy, Elliot Devon Hurley, Head Girl Eve Berney, and Deputy Head Girls Doireann Brosnan and Emer Nolan.
Kieran Sheehy was presented with the Student of the Year Award this year.
The soccer award winners were Luca Rampersaud, Alexander Sauchenko, Killian Gunning, Michael Martin, Neil Browne and Dan Clarke.
The Sports Personality of the Year award went to Nicholas Quirke, while music awards were made to Keiran Sheehy and Sean Luby.
