STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENTS REWARDED
A NUMBER of classes from Woodbrook College gathered for the presentation of their awards at the school recently.
First, second, third and fifth years had their ceremony, marking the end of the school year and all of their successes.
Separate ceremonies were held for fourth and sixth years.
Principal John Taylor said that there were two awards given out for each subject in each group, one academic award for those who got the highest marks in their Christmas tests, and another merit award.
He said that the merit awards were decided based on people who had performed very well, perhaps improved, and put in a lot of work.
There were ‘ best player’ awards given out in a range of sports including soccer and basketball.
The Sportsperson of the Year award went to Luke Clucas for his overall performance.
Mr Taylor said that the award is generally for someone who does a lot of sports, and does well in them all.
The students enjoyed the event, which took place over the last two classes on a Monday afternoon. Some of the other awards were for good attendance, and the year head awards.
Mr Taylor said that there was a good atmosphere and the boys, and first year girls, had worked hard throughout the school year.
Most of them are now doing their in-house exams, with third and sixth years busy preparing for the start of the state exams. They are doing block classes and studying to get ready for the exams which start on Wednesday, June 7.
