Play-off final heartache for Sweeney
PIERCE Sweeney fulfilled many a million young people’s dream last weekend when he was introduced at Wembley with the scores poised at 1-1 between Exeter City and Blackpool in the League Two promotion play-off final.
There were 25 minutes to play at the London venue but just as Sweeney came on Blackpool retook the lead.
Alas, it wasn’t to be a fairytale ending for the Bray man as his Exeter City side’s bid for promotion was to fall at the very final hurdle with Blackpool not relinquishing that 2-1 lead and clinching promotion to League One courtesy of their 2-1 success.
Commiserations to Pierce but congratulations on a wonderful season with the club.
