BRAY BOWLS

What a great week weather wise. This is the time that bowlers love- sun on our backs and rinks glistening.

Our Division 4 team started the week off taking full points at home to CYM.

The Ladies then took six points home from Leinster in a great display.

The 3 Vets teams were in action on Thursday with mixed results. Vets 1 took all four points on offer at home to Westmanstown where Damien Gallanagh made a fine debut.and Brendan Duffy contributed handsomely.

Vets 2 were away to Greenhills in the foothills of the Dublin mountains.

The scenery must have interfered with the bowls as they came home pointless.

The same fate befell Vets 3 away to Greystones.

Our Div 4 team are away to Westmanstown on Monday night and on Tuesday Div ision1 are away to St. James Gate and Division 2 at home to Crumlin. Wednesday sees the ladies at home to Westmanstown and Division 6 away to Westmanstown.

Thursday sees the 3 Vets teams take centre stage with Vets 1 away to St. James Gate, Vets 2 at home to Clontarf and Vets 3 away to CYM.

Bank Holiday Saturday has Division 1 idle and Division 2 away in the Iveagh Grounds against St. James Gate. So it is all action. Well done to Colm Heaslip on winning the club lotto on Saturday, May 27.

WICKLOW ROVERS

The senior ladies continued their good early season form. On Monday night they had an impressive 5-0 away win over Beechwood Celtic, a side that defeated them 4-1 in the corresponding fixture last season.

A brace a piece from the striking partners Niamh O’Brien and Natasha Fitzgerald and a single from Rachel “The Goal Machine” Bolger accounted for their goals on the night.

On the night Saoirse O’Reilly, Rachel Bolger, Hannah Cox and Laura O’Brien stood out for Rovers.

Midweek junior action saw the under-16Bs defeat the 15As in the Under-15/16 Combined Cup, winning 5-0 on Monday night.

Nathan Wynne scored a superb hat-trick with Ryan Murphy nabbing two.

On Tuesday our treble winning team, the 13As just keep on winning, this time they won 5-0 at home to Aughrim Rangers.

Tom Hodgkinson, Tiernan O’Brien, Callum Gibney and Sean O’Meara all scored one a piece with the fifth coming in the shape of an own goal.

Thursday saw both our under 16 teams in action with both been involved in nine-goal thrillers.

Thankfully both our teams came out the right side of the games with both winning on identical scorelines winning 5-4.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS

The last games of the season played out over the past week. Our 9s and 10s played each other in scorching weather on Thursday evening and both sets of players played out a cracking end of season game.

The 13s probably gave their worse display of the season away to Rathnew last Wednesday as they ended up well beaten on the day.

On Saturday morning they were due to play Aughrim Rangers but unfortunately they couldn’t field a team.

Our 15s needed to take all three points at home to Wolfe Tone to keep their hopes of winning the league alive and they duly kept their part of the bargain with a resounding 7-1 victory.

They led 3-nil inside the opening 15 minutes thanks to goals from Steven Coughlan, Andrew McMahon and Josh Odlum.

They made it four when a Wolfe Tone defender scored an own goal but Wolfe Tone pulled a goal back right on half time to make it 4-1 at the break.

The game was played in incessant rain, but it didn’t deter our lads as Coughlan struck another two goals to complete his hat trick, while ten minutes from time Ciaran Mangan capped a fine personnel game when he completed the scoring with a neat finish.

On the day the whole team played well and got the job done and no more can you ask for.

Saturday, July 1, as the date for our Presentation Day. We plan to have a Mini World Cup back up and running after a number of years without one but to do all this we will need a little bit of help.

So if you are interested in football and can spare an hour or two every week leading up to finals day on July 1 to do maybe a bit of refereeing etc it would be greatly appreciated.

Further details for the Mini-World Cup starting dates and events on the day of the presentation day will be announced shortly on our Twitter and Facebook pages.

We also have all our players out and about with Sponsor Cards (where players can purchase club gear depending on how much money they collect).

This is one of our main fundraisers so it would be great if we got loads of support, which to be fair we usually do. We also would like to thank Emma Kearney and Shayne Murphy from Snap Dun Laoghaire who sponsored the printing of our sponsor cards for our upcoming fundraiser.

Many thanks Emma, Shayne and John from everyone at Newtown Juniors F.C.

With regards to the presentation day, all our managers (U-10-U15’s) must get their thinking caps on and mull over who they will be selecting as their player of the year and most improved player of the year.

We will have further details in the coming week regards the presentation day etc.

The WDSL presentation day will take place on Sunday, June 25, in the Grand Hotel in Wicklow town for all players from under-8s up to under-16s. In the coming days we will publish the times that all our teams need to be in attendance.

For further information on all matters ‘Newtown Juniors F.C.’ please contact the secretary at 0876987653 or by email to hughienolan@gmail.com and you can also follow the club on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
