Warm and friendly event for the community at Town Hall
The Bray Municipal District Community Awards were handed out last Tuesday night at the Town Hall in Bray.
Each year, community groups apply to the council for grants.
As part of its commitment to supporting local community development, Wicklow County Council operates an annual Community Award Scheme. The fund for 2017 was distributed as grant aid to successful community groups and local organisations wishing to undertake community projects in their area.
The community grants were to a maximum of €2,000 and for small projects and group running costs.
In the Community Pride category, the maximum was €10,000, with funding for groups or projects that make a significant impact and difference to the lives of people in their communities.
Those projects were age friendly, communities reaching out to new communities, youth projects, or community enterprise.
Michelle Rogers of Bray Area Partnership accepted an award for the Wicklow Community Directory. She said that the funding will go towards running costs.
Michelle said that it was a very pleasant evening at the Town Hall. ‘It was great to be there,’ she said. ‘It was a really warm and friendly event.’
Others to receive awards included the National Learning Network, Nomads Badminton Club and Wicklow Aquanauts, as well as Purple House and CASA.
