BRAY BOWLS

What a week to forget, and a ‘wee’ story to finish-read on. On Monday, our Division 4 team were away to Westmanstown, lost one rink, won one rink and drew the other (lost the overall score though) on a lovely summer’s evening.

On Tuesday evening our Division 1 team travelled to St James’s Gate where they were given a bowling lesson by the lads from ‘The Gate’.

Our Ladies then played Westmanstown in Bray on Wednesday, winning and gaining some revenge for the Men’s defeat on Monday.

Thursday saw our Vets 1 team travel back to ‘The Gate’ where they travelled a man short, won a rink and lost a rink.

Vets 2 went to CYM and also lost, however Vets 3 registered a home win against Clontarf. Congratulations to Eamonn Kennedy/ Christy McEvoy and David McMahon/John Dunne on winning their Pairs matches against Crumlin and Railway Union respectively-they have now progressed to the last 16, unfortunately they have been drawn against each in the next round!

Oh and that story I promised, well you know how sometimes when you travel to a match or game and you realise you have forgotten something (shoes, clubs, clothers etc), well the Vets 2 team left bray to go to CYM, 8 men, 2 cars.

You do the maths, and yep one car left with three, leaving one bowler ‘behind’ still in the toilet in Bray…..guess who? Answers on a postcard please!

WICKLOW ROVERS

Our under-17s defeated Phoenix FC 3-0 in the Niccoli Schuster Cup, Luca Rampersaud made it 14 for the season, Eli Graham nabbed his third of the campaign with Dean Noble scoring his second of the season in what was an excellent all round team performance from the lads.

The senior ladies continued their magnificent start to the season when they defeated Rivervalley Rangers 8-0 at Whitegates.

The girls are now unbeaten after eight cup and league games winning seven and drawn one. Last Monday in the league they hit their opponents with a clinical display.

Rachel ‘The Goal Machine’ Bolger smashed home an excellent hat-trick to bring her tally for the season to six.

The twin strike force of Niamh O’Brien and Natasha Fitzgerald were not to be outdone as they both weighed in with a brace each to bring their season totals to 13 and nine respectively.

The goal haul was completed by Mel Clarke who was making her competitive debut for the girls.

This was an excellent all round team performance from the girls.

The curtain came down on the junior section during the week, our 16As had two big games to determine the destiny of the premier title.

On Tuesday they suffered a 5-3 defeat away to Greystones United with Nathan Sullivan helping himself to a brace with Sean Leonard nabbing the third.

They suffered heartbreak on Thursday night as they didn’t claim the point they required to win the premier title losing 1-0 at home to eventual champions Avonmore. The lads controlled the game for long periods but just couldn’t breach a strong Avonmore rearguard. Well done to everyone on a good season.

The 16Bs had an excellent 6-0 win over Aughrim Rangers on Tuesday to claim the combined Under-15/16 Challenge Cup Plate, six different players got on the scoresheet. Ryan Murphy, Joe Geraghty, David McNabb, Nacho Garcia, Ciaran Byrne and Myles Keogh all hit the back of the net in a clinical performance from the lads. Well done to Mark and the lads on a great season picking up two trophies.

On Thursday night the under-13Bs claimed runners up spot in the Division 3 league when they defeated St Anthonys 4-2 in Newtown.

Leading 2-1 at the break the lads pushed on in the second half to secure the all important win. Tim Hastie fired home a magnificent hat-trick with Luke Dunne adding the other, well done to everyone involved.

In a very exciting and thoroughly enjoyable two days of football, our lads impressed with their performance on the pitch against a strong Belfast selection.

In their first game they drew two all and narrowly lost out in the second game by a scoreline of 2-1.

Well done to the team, who thoroughly enjoyed their experience in Belfast.

They all did our club very proud and represented Arklow Town FC most commendably.

This is a great accolade, well done to the two boys.
