NRA to remove dangerous bend

THE National Roads Authority has now agreed to fund improvement works to a dangerous bend on the N81 at Russborough, just outside Blessington.

The bend was the scene of a recent fatal traffic accident in which a tallaght sales representative was killed after being involved in a head-on collision, and numberous other smashes have occurred at the scene over the years.

However, representations made by Deputy Billy Timmins to Wicklow County Council and the NRA in connection with the dangerous bend at Russborough have resulted in agreement from the NRA ‘in principle’ to provide money.

Survey work is now under way to finalise a design for any realignment and the work itself will be carried out as soon as possible.

The news has been welcomed by Deputy Timmins, who stressed that he would continue to make representation on the matter until the road is made safe.
