ESB no longer installing car charging points

-

MEMBERS of Greystones Municipal District said last week that if they don’t provide a charging point for electric cars, it won’t be done.

Cllr Jennifer Whitmore said that the ESB have finished a scheme in which they installed charging points.

Members heard that there was opposition when they previously intended to instal one in Greystones.

Cllr Whitmore said that people who drive electric cars plan their journeys around where they can charge up.

Cllr Tom Fortune said that it should not be the responsibility of the district council to provide charging points, particularly when working with a very limited budget.

‘We are expected to be innovative as a municipal district,’ said District Manager Michael Nicholson. ‘If someone else is not providing it and we want it, we should. It would be provided for the public good.’

‘Bray has 10 points,’ said Cllr Whitmore. ‘ The ESB tried to put one here and there were issues. They moved on and we missed the opportunity. They have stopped installing them,’ she said.
