Car sharing

The car- sharing service GoCar made a presentation to Greystones Municipal District last Tuesday evening.

A submission had been made to the district under the bye-laws that there be a car sharing designated area in municipal districts.

Officials said that this would be feasible, with one or two spaces marked out fo rthe puprose in the main car park.

GoCar told the members that they launched in 2009 and now have 10,000 members and over 200 vans in Dublin and Cork.

GoCar provides pay-as-you- go driving with hourly rates, on a return-to-base scheme.

In the presentation, GoCar reps said that this is between 50 and 60 per cent cheaper than taxis for return or multi- stop trips.

Fuel, insurance, parking, cleaning and maintenance are included.

The car would be available 24/ 7, 365 days a year.
