Big plans for new Newtown garage

-

A RECENTLY opened €4 million service station development at Newtownmountkennedy may be the forerunner to an even larger project, according to plans revealed by Valero Energy (Ireland), which markets fuel in Ireland under the Texaco brand.

The new ‘ Texaco Junction 12’ service station, which is family-owned and managed by Gerard Marbach and his son Benjamin, both from Enniskerry, is situated on the approach to Newtownmountkennedy, little more than 200 yards from Junction 12 on the main Dublin to Wexford dual-carriageway.

The new service station currently provides employment for some 20 people, a number that would increase significantly when all developments are completed, a Valero statement said.

Set on a 8.5 acres site bordered by trees on all sides, the new service station represents an investment of €4 million and has been under construction since May of last year.

On site facilities include six lanes access, each with two pumping points that give it the capacity to refuel up to 12 vehicles simultaneously. A choice of car wash systems, rest room facilities, and parking for up to 85 vehicles are also provided.

Said by Valero Energy (Ireland) Retail Sales Manager, Tom Naughton, to become a ‘magnet’ for motorists and commercial customers travelling between Dublin and Wexford, the project has been coming to fruition since 1999, when Gerard Maybach first viewed a brochure promoting the sale of the site.

Now the new service station could mark the first phase of what may become an even more extensive development.

According to the statement issued by Valero, future plans envisage the construction of new motor showrooms and a retail development that is to be styled on the lines of Cork’s renowned English Market. Designed and built on the Continental model, it would house a bakery, restaurant and numerous other artisan outlets, with 250 adjoining car parking spaces.
