-

THE TRADITIONAL craft of Basket Making is being explored at a workshop at Tinahely Farm taking place on Saturday, June 17.

Master basket maker Heike Khal, who lives in Paulstown, Kilkenny, will host the workshop, which has proven popular on previous occasions at the farm.

‘We have held the basket making workshop a few times throughout the year and it proves to be an extremely popular craft to learn,’ said Ciaran O’Toole, PR manager at Tinahely Farm.

‘It’s a full day course which includes all the materials required to make the baskets and lunch and afternoon tea.’

Those in attendance will be given a talk by Heike about the art of basket making and then it’s time to learn how to make a basket using willow grown by Heike.

Once the basket is finished, participants get to bring their own handiwork home with them.

The full day basket making course, which starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m., costs €85 and booking is essential so call Philip on 087 8168457.

The farm, run by Philip and Rebecca Hadden, holds numerous workshops including in flower arrangements and wire sculpture, is located at Coolruss and is one of Ireland’s hidden treasures, offering visitors fabulous food in its restaurant and tea rooms, has a farm shop, children’s activity barn, farm animals and gift shop.
