MAGPIES APPEAL UPHELD

Leinster rule in favour of Newtown United

-

NEWTOWN UNITED’S appeal to the Leinster Football Association (L.F.A.) in relation to their semi-final loss to Carnew AFC in the Jim McLaughlin Premier Trophy last month has been upheld due to new evidence being produced by the Magpies.

Newtown had protested the result on the grounds that Carnew had allegedly fielded illegal players during the 3-1 defeat at the Back Alley but this had been been rejected by the W.D.F.L. due to lack of evidence.

However, Newtown United appealed to the LFA and the hearing was held at FAI headquarters in Abbotstown on Monday evening last.

Newtown United are believed to have produced new evidence for their case which related to a player having been registered with a team in County Wexford.

This led to the LFA ruling that a player was registered with and played with Gorey Rangers (Youths) before being registered with Carnew AFC.

It is reported that that same player was then fielded by Carnew in the Jim McLaughlin Trophy semi-final at the Back Alley.

Carnew have four working days to appeal the L.F.A. decision to the F.A.I.

If that should fail or not occur then they will be thrown out of the Jim McLaughlin Premier Trophy and Newtown United shall go forward to face Rathnew United A in the decider at a date to be fixed by the WDFL.
