Coolboy handballers win All-Ireland bronze
THE future of handball in Coolboy is safe if the achievement of Féile na nGael team in County Wexford last weekend is anything to go by.
Competing in Division 6 of the national competition, the Coolboy lads enjoyed two super victories to qualify for the semi-final against a strong Ballydesmond side out of County Cork.
The Cork lads won that clash and this sent the Coolboy stars into the third/fourth play-off against Conna of Cork and the talented Wicklow lads got the better of their Rebel opponents by a single ace in a real thriller of a game to spark great celebrations among the Garden county supporters in Horeswood.
It was Cavan’s Munterconnaught who the Coolboy lads got the better of by 42-02; a win which sent them on a collision course with Galway’s Salthill.
The Coolboy lads triumphed here by 42-10 but they fell to Conna in the game to decide who topped the group.
Defeat here by 42-10 left Cool- boy qualifying in second spot with Ballydesmond waiting in the semi-final.
Unfortunately the lads came up against a very good team in Ballydesmond and it just wasn’t their day.
But the defeat didn’t linger in the minds of the Coolboy squad and they gained sweet revenge on Conna and secured an All-Ireland bronze medal after a weekend that will live long in their memories and, hopefully, drive them on the bigger and better things on the handball courts of Ireland.
