NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

Saturday, July 1, is the date for our Presentation Day. We will also be running our Mini World Cup this year (for the first time in a couple of years) and we will need a little bit of help. So if you are interested in football and can spare an hour or two every week leading up to finals day on July 1 to do maybe a bit of refereeing etc it would be greatly appreciated. It is open to girls and boys from five years upwards.

For members of Newtown Juniors FC there will be no cost while it is €10 per head for non-members. All players (members/ non-members) who intend playing in the Mini World cup must register on an official form. Closing date for registration is Tuesday, June 13, at 8 p.m. to allow for team selections and fixtures. No registration will be accepted after this date/time. If we don’t have sufficient numbers for a respective age group, then we wont be in a position to run a competition for that said age group but will do our utmost to facilitate all players.

The first games in the Mini World cup will take place on Thursday, June 15, from 6 p.m. All Mini World Cup finals will take place during our Presentation Day on Saturday, July 1, If you require a registration form or further information please contact secretary Hughie Nolan at 087 6987653, or any member of the committee or one of our coaches from any of our teams. Please note that all children will play on Finals day, and you never know the ever-popular ‘Tiny Tots’ game may make a comeback. You can follow all the fixtures, teams etc on our Facebook page.

All our players are currently out and about with Sponsor Cards (where players can purchase club gear depending on how much money they collect). This is one of our main fundraisers so it would be great if we got loads of support, which to be fair we usually do. Regards the Presentation Day all our managers (under-10U-15’s) must get their thinking caps on and mull over who they will be selecting as their Player of the Year and Most Improved Player of the Year. As part of our Presentation Day we will have loads of fun games, which will include ‘Bubble Football’ for all our teams from the season just finished.

The WDSL Presentation Day will take place on Sunday, June 25, in the Grand Hotel in Wicklow town for all players from under-8s up to under-16s.

The following are the times that presentations will be made to our teams/age groups: under-8s – 10 a.m.; under-9s – 10.30 a.m.; under-10s – 11 a.m.; under-11s – 11.30 a.m.; under-13s – 2 p.m.; under-15s – 3.15 p.m. All players/ coaches must be at the venue at least 15 minutes before their time slot.

For further information on all matters ‘Newtown Juniors FC’ please contact the secretary at 087 6987653 or by email tohughienolan@gmail.com and you can also follow the club on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

GAA CLUB NOTES

The seniors drew against Carnew in the league away last Sunday, which was a good result considering the number of players who were unavailable for the fixture. The first championship fixture is scheduled for July 2 against Avondale, so training will continue in earnest in the run up to the match.

Our popular junior magpies nursery resumes this coming Saturday and every Saturday at 10 a.m. on the pitch, an hour’s fun and excitement is guaranteed each week for four- to 8-yearolds. If you need more info please give Barry a buzz at 086 8390507.

The under-seven and under-9s had a blitz last Friday in Bray; their next blitz is a monster All County affair in Ballinakill on Saturday, June 24. Both these teams are training on Tuesdays at 6.30 p.m.

The under-13s unbeaten run was emphatically ended in Hollywood by a very strong home side. Newtown were very slow getting going and playing against a strong wind however we found ourselves 4-9 to 0-4 down at half time.

Newtown started the second half much improved and dominated the first 15 minutes scoring 1-6 without reply but not near enough for all the possession they had and just couldn’t find the goals they really needed to get back into the game. St Kevin’s then got back on top in the latter part of the half and ran out convincing winners in the end.

The under-8/10 girls had a blitz in Ashford recently and are training on Wednesdays at 6.30 p.m.

The under-12 girls are doing well in the league and had a great win over St Nick’s recently, their next match is at home to Coolkenno on Tuesday, June 27.

Well done to Grace Murphy, Alicia Farrell, Katelyn O’Toole, Hannah Martin, Tia McDonald, Anastasia Razniak, Katie Smith and Emma Walsh, who all made their county debut last Saturday in a Leinster blitz in Carlow.

The under-14 girls next game is against Bray Emmets and training is Mondays and Thursdays at 7 p.m.

The under-16 girls are taking a break from matches till after the junior cert but training continues every Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m. Best of luck to all sitting exams over the coming weeks.

If you need more info about any of our juvenile teams please give Shay a ring at 087 2699620. All membership is now overdue and must be paid within the next two weeks when we will implement a strictly no pay no play policy.

The Kellogg’s Cúl Camps are returning to Newtown once again this year from July 24 to July 28 and online registration is now open (kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie)

There is a good stock of club gear now available to buy for any enquiries regarding club gear please contact Amy at 086 3332195.

Congratulations to all the boys are girls who made their confirmation last week, we hope you all had a great day.

Two lucky match-three winners took home €100 last week however the jackpot rolled over to €3,600. Numbers drawn were 17, 19, 21 and 23.
