AVONDALE

Our playing week started last Wednesday with our Junior hurlers getting a walk over from Bray Emmetts which was a bit annoying as we were building up a head of steam in the league.

We travel to Carnew this evening for junior hurling with a 7.30pm start.

Also last Wednesday our under-11 hurlers played Michael Dwyers and after a great game of hurling were were unlucky to lose by four points.

This team is improving every week so keep up the great work lads. This evening our under-11 footballers welcome Aughrim to Avondale for a 7.15pm start for what is sure to be a humdinger of a game.

Last Friday evening our Senior footballers travelled to Greystones to take on Eire Og. This was a game that will live long in the memory.

Avondale started with six Junior players, lost Shane O’Neill to a black card, his replacement Joe Kennedy who is the Junior B goalkeeper goes in a full forward and scores a cracker of a goal.

We then lose Dean Gahan to another black card and his replacement Brendan ‘The Silver Fox’ Ward who is a selector in the dying minutes kicks two wonderful points to give Avondale a badly needed win on a scoreline of 2-12 to 2-10.

On Sunday we played Carnew in the senior hurling championship. We were a bit under strength but we hurled fairly well to go in level at half-time but as we ran out of steam in the second half Carnew upped their game and they ran out comfortable winners in the end.

There was no winner of last week’s lotto with the numbers 6,13,14 and 27 drawn. The jackpot for last night’s draw which was held in Mileys was €700. Results in next weeks notes.

The following matched three numbers and shared €100: Myra Nolan, Raheengraney, Daragh Gregan, Coolattin Gardens. Patrick Murphy won the promoters prize. Ellen Kinch Memorial Cup -Bray Emmets Ladies showed their support for the Ellen Kinch Memorial Cup 7s tournament last Saturday and with only eight players, they had their work cut out for them. Our girls put it up to the opposing teams, including last year’s Leinster finalists, and left Tinahely with their heads held high (and only some minor sunburn).

The Kinch family has arranged the Ellen Kinch Memorial Cup since 2008, with any proceeds made on the day going to the worthy cause of Barrettstown charity.

U14 Camogie - The U14 Camogie team hosted Kilcoole in Páirc Emmet Bhré Monday, June 12. The game was played in a very good sporting spirit and the tussles were keenly contested throughout. However, with full-back Róisín Benville impervious, and Áine Farrell and the Canavan sisters with radars honed – Bray Emmets were always going to offer a Tour de force. The night ended in a Bray win which delighted team Mentors, Neal O’Doherty and Eugene Canavan.

Foireann: Áine Farrell (Captaen, 2-3), Alannah Harrington (1-1), Amy Butler (1-0), Aoife Canavan (3-0), Erica Brierton (1-0), Fionnuala Crowley (01), Madge Redmond (0-1), Mary-Anne Aherne (1-0), Pearl O’Connor (2-0), Róisín Benville, Saoirse Canavan (1-2). Bainisteoir - Brian Lambe.

U10 Camogie and Football - While the boys were doing us proud in the Feile the girls blitzes carried on. We had two this week, Camogie on Wednesday in Ballinakill and we hosted 12 teams in Bray on Saturday for Football. The weather couldn’t have been more different, cold and windy in Ballinakill and a scorcher in Bray. We finished the week with four wins
