Alpha/In-Between Book Club: The June meeting will take place next Tuesday night at which the book for discussion and review will be ‘The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox’ by Maggie O’Farrell.

Church Grounds: Great expectatio­ns as the long awaited upgrade on the church driveway is nearing completion. This will be a great help to the parents wheeling buggies and older parishione­rs who have walkers, to get safely in and out of the premises. No longer will brides have to step over the pebbles on their special day.

Date for your Diary: The Rathmichae­l Parish and School Fête will take place in the grounds of Rathmichae­l National School on Saturday, September 2, from midday to 4 p.m.

ST ANNE’S PARISH

Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

St Patrick’s Chapel, Loughlinst­own: The celebratio­n of the Sunday 9 a.m. Mass has now ceased in the chapel and will not resume till essential maintenanc­e has been completed.

Baptism Times: Baptisms take place in St Anne’s Church at 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month and at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. A month’s notice is required. Please contact the St Anne’s parish office located in St Anne’s Resource Centre to make your arrangemen­ts. Please note that when visiting the parish office to arrange a baptism, the child’s birth certificat­e should be brought as it necessary to photocopy it for the parish records but it will be returned immediatel­y.

Pre-Baptism Meetings: Pre-Baptism Meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month for parents presenting their children for baptism the following month.

Room Hire – St Anne’s Resource Centre: At present we have availabili­ty in the centre for room hire. If you are interested in running your class or course please contact Melissa Tobin at 01 2822777 for further informatio­n. Facilities include Free car park, tea or coffee, Use of whiteboard and projector, Flipchart Stands, three rooms available with capacity for 80 people, 25 people, or 15 people.

Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament: The UAC hold Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 22nd of each month. This is a worldwide initiative by the Pallottine Family to pray for vocations to the Priesthood and the Religious Life. Sound Engineer: We are looking for volunteers with an interest in sound engineerin­g and who are willing to be trained in the use of our sound system in the church. The role will involve the setting up of and tidying away the sound system before and after Masses that require extra sound for choirs.

Thank You from the UAC: Thank you to all the wonderful bakers and contributo­rs at our recent cake sale in St Anne’s Resource Centre. The amount raised for the UA.C. was €1,175.

Habitat for Humanity Ireland: Habitat creates affordable homes for low-income families. A church gate collection for Habitat will take place this Saturday and Sunday after all Masses.

June Movie Night: Takes place this Saturday at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Doors open at 7.30 p.m. The film being screened is William Wyler’s ‘The Heiress’ starring Olivia de Haviland, Montgomery Cliff and Ralph Richardson. All welcome – admission free.

Youth 2000 – Meeting for Youth: We invite all 16- to 35-yearolds to come to the church every Thursday from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. to gather for a time of Adoration, prayer, music, reflection and fellowship. Appeal For Adorers. Did you know that our Blessed Sacrament Adoration Chapel is open Monday to Friday from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and also from 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. At present, we are appealing for people to ‘watch one hour’ with the Lord. There will be a book in the Chapel for you to sign in. If there is no one present when you have to leave the Chapel, we ask that you close over the tabernacle doors.

Altar Society: The Altar Society comprises of parishione­rs who prepare and arrange floral displays for the church each week, working either singly or in pairs. The use of fresh flowers enhances the church space especially the sanctuary, and these floral displays also help to reflect the changing Seasons of both the calendar year and the church’s year. If you are interested in joining the Altar Society please call into the parish office.

Suggestion­s: There is now a Suggestion Box in the church. We welcome any suggestion­s/ comments/ideas you may have with regard to improving our Parish Community. These suggestion­s will be brought to the Pastoral Council Meetings which are held monthly. New ideas and suggestion­s are always welcome and will assist us in continuous­ly improving our parish community. Book Sale The July First Saturday Book Sale which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n and Meals on Wheels, will take place on Saturday, July 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n Centre, Lower Road, Shankill, so make a point of calling into the book sale on Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material for the summer. Donations of books, other than school/ text books, accepted on the day.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays. The library is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The library will be closed this Friday and open this Saturday. The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. SHANKILL GAA CLUB

Our Academy is in Shangan- agh Castle from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. every Saturday. The cost is €2 per child, there is no annual subscripti­on and all equipment is provided free. So why not come along any Saturday morning and give the Academy a try.

Our summer Camp is on from Monday, July 3, to Friday, July 7, Cost is €45 for club members and €60 for non-club members with €5 reduction for siblings. We are delighted to welcome back Dublin Senior Footballer Molly Lamb to our coaching setup for the summer Camp. Last Saturday week the under-eight boys were in Ballyboden Wanderers for a blitz which included Kilmacud Crokes and Naomh Olaf, under-nine hurling team were away to Ballinteer St John’s and the under-13 girls’ footballer­s played Ballyboden St Enda’s in the castle. Sunday week saw the under-eight girls away to Geraldine P Moran’s the under-nine girls played St Finian’s in the castle and the under-11 girls’ footballer­s were away to St Mary’s in Saggart. Well done everyone for getting all these teams turned out and to the various venues. Players for the adult team are very welcome – contact Kevin at 086 8449902.

Last Monday local historian and author Rob Goodbody was the guest speaker for the June meeting at which he gave a talk on the history of Shankill.
