Championship defeat
Kilmacanogue suffered a narrow opening round Intermediate Championship defeat on Friday last in Arklow. Despite a brave late rally by the Kilmac men, they lost out on a 4-10 to two – 14 scoreline against Ballymanus. This championship will be a tough one with five regulars away travelling this summer but yet, this is a game Kilmac could have won.
It was a tight but lively first half which Kilmac trailed by the narrowest of margins at the break 2-03 to 1-05, Stephen Morgan with the goal. However, goals win games and two further Ballymanus goals left it a mountain to climb and Kilmac trailed 4-07 to 1-14 before an Aaron Creavin goal levelled matters but two late points without reply saw Ballymanus win it by two points.
However, some encouraging performances on the night and as this is the group stages, plenty games for Kilmac to get back into it. They face Rathnew this Friday (30th) in the second group game and support would be very welcome. In between these fixtures were two league games also which is very demanding on the players. Last week the team travelled to Carnew and came away with a great victory, this Tuesday (27th) they had a home game (result too late to appear).
