Peter’s Pence Collection: The annual collection to support our Holy Father, Pope Francis and the Pontifical Charities, replaces SHARE this weekend. Dear Friends – Each year throughout the entire Church, on the Sunday nearest the feast of Saints Peter and Paul, a collection is held for the charitable work of the Pope. It is interestingly one of the oldest collections in the church. It was first mentioned in history as far back as 1031 and in Ireland it dates back to Norman times.

Pope Francis has shown us by his word and by his example the special concern he has for the poor and those on the periphery of society. He has said that he wants a Church which is poor and there for the poor. He has a special concern for the victims of human trafficking and modern forms of slavery. He has appealed on many occasions for support for the many Christians, who suffer persecution because of their faith. Pope Francis’ own personal life style is marked by great simplicity.

The Peter’s Pence collection is a gesture of solidarity with the Pope in his care for the poor and I ask you to contribute generously also as a sign of your personal appreciation of the work of Pope Francis. With sincere thanks for your generosity and with prayerful regards in the Lord, I ask you also to pray for Pope Francis and his ministry and for me – Diarmuid Martin Archbishop of Dublin.

The club has an immediate need for buoyancy aids and canoeing helmets. If anyone would like to donate such items please call Albert at 087 6756439.

Members of the Queen of Peace Adventure Youth Club were very much saddened with news of the demise of Colin Davidson. A few years ago Colin came to the club saying that he wanted to be occupied doing something good and enjoyable. He was immediately welcomed into the club where he worked and studied long and hard to qualify in a number of adventure sports, which he shared with the club.

Eventually he became a full time professional adventure sports leader and organiser. Everyone in the club liked Colin’s enthusiasm, patience, humility, gentility, and most of all his continuous good humour. He was especially loved by the young boys and girls for whom he organised so many adventures and outdoor games. For Colin no job was too small or too big.

Certainly Colin will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Thank you Colin for the dreams that you shared with us, and the time that you spent with us which will never be forgotten. May you rest in perfect peace till we all meet once again.
