10 Coco Jamboo Mr President P. Diddy, or Puff Daddy as he was then known, recorded ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ with Faith Evans, widow of rapper The Notorious B.I.G., as a tribute to his friend who had been killed in a drive-by shooting a few months earlier. The song samples one of Puff Daddy’s favourite tunes,‘Every Breath You Take’, a hit for The Police in 1983, and as a result Sting bagged a writer’s credit and substantial royalties. ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ was one of the biggest-selling singles of 1997, topping charts all over the world. It had worldwide sales of over eight million, three million of which were in the United States where the song spent 11 weeks at No.1 in the Hot 100. In 1998, the song won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.
