Colin led a very active life with his loyal dog Th or by his side

-

GREYSTONES native Colin Davidson died suddenly at his home in Manor Kilbride recently, to the deep sadness of his family and friends.

Colin (45) was a person to whom you could always talk and tell anything, his sister Andy said. He would always listen and talk through any problems with his sisters and anyone who needed him.

Colin is survived by his mother Joan, father Alex, sisters Andy and Barbara, nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends.

His funeral service took place last Thursday morning in Christ Church, Bray, before committal in Mount Jerome Crematorium.

Colin trained in Delphi, County Mayo, as an outdoor instructor and led a very active life with his loyal dog Thor always by his side.

Thor, a Rhodesian ridgeback cross, is a striking animal and very much a gentle giant. He went everywhere with Colin, who found him in Ash Animal Sanctuary in Kiltegan a few years ago. They looked at each other and Colin decided then and there that this was the dog for him.

In one of their tricks, Thor would pull Colin along on a skateboard, with the greatest of ease. Thor was beyond devoted. If Colin so much as got up to make a cup of coffee, the dog would follow him. The pair went hiking together, and while he couldn’t bring Thor kayaking, he would remain on the shore when Colin went out.

Colin grew up in Greystones and later moved around to a number of places, including Rosslare in Co Wexford for some years, and later Manor Kilbride. His family members by now all live in Bray.

The Davidsons would enjoy summer holidays in Castletown when they were children, and have very happy memories of County Wexford.

Colin was a very sociable man who was well liked and made an impression wherever he went.

Some of the many organisations with which Colin had an association as an outdoor instructor included Lacken Kayak Club, Avon Rí, and Kippure. He also volunteered for a time with Bray’s Queen of Peace Adventure Youth Club.

He had been accepted onto a course to further his qualifications, which was due to start in September.

He loved heavy metal music, as well as dance music, and had eclectic tastes. Some of his favourite bands included Metallica and Slayer.

He used to ride a motorbike and was a member of East Coast Riders. Members of the club carried his coffin to the crematorium and said it was a privilege to do so.

Colin was a past pupil of St Patrick’s National School in Greystones, as well as St David’s Secondary School.

At the ceremony in Christ Church, two of Colin’s cousins, his mother and his father all addressed the congregation with their memories and their thanks that so many attended.

People came from as far as Mayo to say farewell to Colin and sympathise with his family.
