Council signs up to Healthy Ireland Charter

-

WICKLOW County Council is officially a member of the Healthy Ireland Network after signing a Healthy Ireland Charter.

The Healthy Ireland Network was launched in May by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny, along with Keith Wood, Chair of the Healthy Ireland Council.

The first phase of the new Healthy Ireland Network has been established by the Healthy Ireland Council to get organisations across the country to sign-up, to combine efforts to improve the health and well-being of the population.

The Charter was signed by Cathaoirleach, Cllr Pat Fitzgerald, and Director of Services, Michael Nicholson, at a ceremony in Wicklow county Buildings .

To mark the occasion, members of the public, staff of Wicklow County Council and Public Representatives were invited to take part in the ‘Smoothie Bike Challenge.’ Smoothie Bikes are custom built bicycles for hire which are fitted with blenders that make smoothies as you pedal. The Local Economic and Community Plan and the Wicklow Local Sports Partnership Strategy aim to ensure integrated delivery of services aligned with the HSE on im- plementation of the Healthy Ireland Strategy: A Framework for Improved Health and Well-being 2013 – 2025.

This Government-led initiative aims to create an Irish Society where everyone can enjoy physical and mental health.
