Dancing feet in Rathdrum land Safety Code award

-

YOUNGSTERS attending Rathdrum Boys National School have danced their way to the top after winning the 2017 Road Safety Authority Safe Cross Code Dance Competition.

Junior infant pupils right up to fourth class pupils all took part in the choreographed dance, making sure that their friends know how to stay safe on our roads. It also proved a fun way to learn how to cross the road safely.

The idea to originally enter the competition came after a visit to the school from Orla Maguire of the RSA, who was so impressed by the boys enthusiasm for the safe cross code that she suggested they enter the dance competition.

All the pupils involved donned high-vis jackets for their dance routine which was recorded and sent on to the judges.

The top five videos were then selected and placed up on Youtube, with the video which attracted the most ‘ likes’ over a two week period deemed the winner.

With only days to go, Rathdrum BNS was neck-a-neck with a school from Kerry. However, one last push saw Rathdrum come out on top with 14,225 likes.

As reward the school will receive a classroom pack of 30 7-inch tablets and a voucher for €200.

Everyone associated with the RSA dance video would like to thank the community of Rathdrum for coming out in force and supporting the local entry, helping the school to win the overall English category.
