WICKLOW GAOL TOURS

Wicklow Gaol is an atmospheri­c jail museum experience offering visitors a glimpse of life in prisons of the past. As one of Ireland’s top tourist destinatio­ns, Wicklow Gaol tells the story of its prisoners through an interactiv­e tour. Open daily from 10.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

THE TEN DARK SECRETS OF THE IRISH REVOLUTION

Paddy Cullivan of Callan’s Kicks, The Late Late Show, Leviathan and Kilkenomic­s brings an audiovisua­l spectacula­r a century after the Easter Rising to the Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray on Thursday, July 6, from 9 p.m. Using satire, imagery, historical insight and song, Paddy reveals the ten strangest things and darkest secrets that happened during the Rising, Revolution and Counter-Revolution (Civil War). He also draws parallels with those events and the effects on modern Ireland in a story that unfolds like an addictive whodunnit.

CHRISTY MOORE LIVE AT ARKLOW BAY HOTEL

One of the most compelling and inspiratio­nal musicans Ireland has ever seen, Christy Moore will perform two nights at Arklow Bay Hotel on Thursday and Friday, July 20 and 21. The performanc­es commence at 8 p.m. each night and tickets, priced at €42, are available at Ticketmast­er.ie.

BRAY ARTS SHOW

The Bray Arts Show takes place on the first Monday of every month in the Martello Hotel. Bray Arts is a forum for practition­ers of music, art, poetry, writing, dance and drama in the Bray area. Doors open at 8 p.m. and all are welcome. Admission is €5/€ concession.

BRAY AIR DISPLAY

The award-winning Bray Air Display is scheduled to take place over two days, Saturday and Sunday, July 22 and 23 (subject to licence). The food, craft and business village is taking place during the Bray Air Display weekend. The event is managed by Bray Summerfest with main support by the Irish Aviation Authority as well as Wicklow County Council and Bray.ie.

JASON BYRNE LIVE AT ROYAL HOTEL

Comedian Jason Byrne is to perform his show ‘Popped Up’ at the Royal Hotel in Bray on Saturday, July 22, at 8 p.m.

Tickets are priced at €22 and are available at the reception of the Royal Hotel. The show is strictly over 16s.

THE BIG DIG – GLENDALOUG­H

AS part of Heritage Week, UCD’s School of Irish Archaelogy will be carrying out a Big Dig event for children from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 19.

The event takes place at in Glendaloug­h and will have a replica Viking house workshop and excavation designed for children from five years to 12 years of age. This innovative product allows children to explore the Viking world through a simulated and controlled archaeolog­y dig. Children will have the opportunit­y to experience what it is like to be an archaeolog­ist by learning how to excavate the remains of a Viking house. They will have the opportunit­y to dig for Viking treasures and artefacts dating back over 1000 years and learn about our Viking ancestors through the eyes of real archaeolog­ists.

BOOK CLUB GREYSTONES LIBRARY

For avid readers, there are three book clubs for adults in Greystones Library. The clubs take place on the second Wednesday and the last Wednesday of every month at 11 a.m. and the first Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m.

THE MUSIC CIRCLE

The Music Circle meets on the first Wednesday of every month in Greystones Library from 7 p.m. to 8.45 p.m. Come along and listen or participat­e by choosing your favourite classical pieces to share with others.

MUSIC MEDLEY

The East Coast Academy of Performing Arts are proud to present ‘A Musical Medley at The Mermaid Arts Centre on Saturday, July 17. The evening of song and dance will feature excerpts from all your favourite movies and musicals from Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Hairspray, High School Musical, a Chorus Line and Cinderella. The event features students aged four to 12 from ECAPA’s Greystones branch.
