Nolan appointed as ref in Leinster football final

-

POPULAR Wicklow referee Anthony Nolan will take charge of the Leinster Senior football final between Dublin and Kildare in Croke Park on Sunday, July 16.

It’s a huge honour for the Grangecon native who has being steadily rising through the inter-county referee ranks in recent years.

The former Baltinglass and Wicklow Senior footballer took charge of this year’s Allianz NFL Division 3 final between Louith and Tipperary and he has also been the man in the middle at high profile games such as the Leinster championship meeting of Laois and Longford this year and the league meeting of Cork and Fermanagh.

He has also ruled the roost in the interprovincial clash of Munster and Ulster and the Leinster club final meeting of St Vincent’s and Rhode in recent years.

Widely respected in the club scene in Wicklow, the Rathnew resident is said to be delighted with the appointment and looking forward to the challenge.

Nolan has a loyal group of umpires. They include Peter and David Case from Donard, Kiltegan’s Damien Byrne, Tinahely’s Kieron Kenny, Donal O’Keeffe and Rathnew’s Patrick ‘Whacker’ Doyle and from that group Nolan will select a team of four to take up positions at the posts in the beautiful surrounds of Croke Park for what should be a very interesting game of football.
