Murphy and Neary remain

-

AFTER a relatively successful season in his opening year in charge of the Wicklow Senior hurlers, Rathnure’s Seamus Murphy was reappointed to the role at the recent County Board meeting in Ballinakill.

Murphy, along with trainer Michael Neary, had been given a two-year spell in charge of the flagship hurling squad but their second year required getting the support of the club delegates.

“Management discussed this a fortnight ago,” said Martin Coleman, “and we recommend that the outgoing two people who were involved last year would hang on for the year ahead and look after our Senior hurlers for 2018,” he added.

The Chairman sought a pro- poser and seconder which were provided without delay.

“We will be looking for more help. It’s impossible to get an extra selector and various clubs were asked. So, maybe on the success of the team this year, getting to a league final and the Christy Ring semi-final, hopefully we’ll get more people on board. We’ll be putting the backroom team in place over the coming weeks,” he added.
