Carnew crowned champs
CARNEW AFC have won their appeal to the Leinster Football Association regarding the docking of three league points from the club by the WDFL in relation to the alleged use of an illegal player during the course of the Pat O’Toole Division 2 campaign.
The decision on their appeal was made on Monday night last and was based on Rule 94.2B which says that ruling bodies have 28 days to deal with situations regarding inelligble players.
The WDFL did not deal with the situation within 28 days and therefore Carnew AFC’s appeal against the deduction of three points was upheld.
As a consequence the Wexford border side have been crowned as the Pat O’Toole Division 2 champions.
Chairperson of the WDFL, Michael Conlon, said that, “rules are rules and we have to abide by the rules”.
Speaking on behalf of Carnew AFC, John Kavanagh and Jack Kearney said that they wished to congratulate their players on a great year.
