Locals bid sad farewell to popular Welshman ‘Pricey’

-

There was great sadness in the Stilebawn and indeed Kilmacanogue area last week when news came through that Mike Price had passed away peacefully in the care of the doctors and nurses of the Beacon Hospital after a short illness.

Affectionately known as ‘Pricey’, Mike was quite a character and all enjoyed his humorous company.

Born and reared in Old Ynysybwl, Pontypridd, south Wales, Mike moved to Ireland and set his sights on the glamorous Phil Boland in Hacketstown.

The couple married over 40 years ago and moved here locally to Stilebawn where Mike used all his design skills to build a beautiful house and garden.

They had four wonderful children of which Mike was so proud – Michael, Marcus, David and of course his princess Katie – and we sympathise with them and his beloved wife Phil, brother Kieran, sisters and brothers- in- law, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends on their sad loss.

Known also as ‘ The Dreamer’, Mike dreamed of many a project and most came true, including a lovely ten-house holiday home development in Waterville on the ring of Kerry, which Mike loved dearly and his ashes will be spread there this week.

He was also a rugby fanatic and was always a proud Welshman when they beat Ireland and when Ireland won; sure, he was an adopted Irishman anyway. A keen golfer, he enjoyed his four-ball every week in Delgany Golf Club with a mix of his great friends Liam Delahunt, Brendan Moore, Phil O’Neill and Noel Byrne and they will miss him greatly.

Many members of the club were part of the huge congregation that gathered in St Mary’s Church in Enniskerry last Wednesday morning and we have no doubt that he would have had a good smile on his face as he looked down on everyone getting soaked in the rain to bid farewell to him.

His son Michael paid one of the most moving and beautiful tributes to his Dad from the alter which had everyone in laughter as they associated with all the stories and you can see his legacy certainly living on in his lovely family and now Katie is also a most sought after designer to carry on that trait.

You’ve been taken away from us far too soon Mike. Rest in Peace Pricey.
