Carnew show makes welcome return this week

AFTER a year’s absence, the Carnew and District Agricultur­al Show is back this Saturday, July 15.

The 71st show kicks off at Umrigar, Carnew, at 11 a.m. and the organisers are hoping for a large turnout from both competitor­s and the general public. Admission for adults is €5 while children go free.

In the horse section there are qualifiers for shows across the country including: the Red Mills Non-Thoroughbr­ed Colt/Gelding Two Year Old All Ireland Championsh­ip at the Tinahely Show; the Limerick Lady Championsh­ip for two-year old traditiona­lly bred fillies; and the Three Year Old Filly All Ireland Championsh­ip at the Bantry Show.

There are also competitio­ns for carriage driving; sheep; poultry, which is new this year; a dog show; and an indoor section featuring baking, crafts, art, photograph­y, flowers, country produce, a junior section, and a qualifier for the Easterlici­ous Cook of the Year competitio­n at the Moate Show.

There’s also a qualifier for the All Ireland Traditiona­l Handmade Craft Final at the Ballyshann­on Show; for the Fleetwood Paints All Ireland Amateur Painting Competitio­n at the Virginia Show; and for the Bord Bia All Ireland Quality Potato Championsh­ip at the Tullamore Show.

The day will also include children’s entertainm­ent, and a barbecue and music on the show field on show night when the competitio­ns have concluded.
