Carnew show makes welcome return this week
AFTER a year’s absence, the Carnew and District Agricultural Show is back this Saturday, July 15.
The 71st show kicks off at Umrigar, Carnew, at 11 a.m. and the organisers are hoping for a large turnout from both competitors and the general public. Admission for adults is €5 while children go free.
In the horse section there are qualifiers for shows across the country including: the Red Mills Non-Thoroughbred Colt/Gelding Two Year Old All Ireland Championship at the Tinahely Show; the Limerick Lady Championship for two-year old traditionally bred fillies; and the Three Year Old Filly All Ireland Championship at the Bantry Show.
There are also competitions for carriage driving; sheep; poultry, which is new this year; a dog show; and an indoor section featuring baking, crafts, art, photography, flowers, country produce, a junior section, and a qualifier for the Easterlicious Cook of the Year competition at the Moate Show.
There’s also a qualifier for the All Ireland Traditional Handmade Craft Final at the Ballyshannon Show; for the Fleetwood Paints All Ireland Amateur Painting Competition at the Virginia Show; and for the Bord Bia All Ireland Quality Potato Championship at the Tullamore Show.
The day will also include children’s entertainment, and a barbecue and music on the show field on show night when the competitions have concluded.
