Any activities on the pitch can hinder the progress of the works being carried out.

As you will appreciate the time, money and work spent on the pitch is to the benefit of all our club members to provide the best playing surface possible, please stay off the pitch and thank you.

The second week of our annual soccer camp is in progress and if week 1 was anything to go by the kids will have a very enjoyable time.

The feedback from the kids and their parents was excellent with everyone enjoying the experience. We definitely saw some potential Messi’s, Ronaldo’s, Aguero’s and even one or two potential DeGea’s displaying their skills.

A big thanks goes to all the coaches and the administrators who organised the camp.

Thanks to Anthony Earls who helped around the ground all week.

Last but not least a big thanks to all the kids and parents for supporting the club’s camp, a massive thanks to you all.

BRAY BOWLS

WE are now in the second half of the season and things are getting serious in all leagues.

Brian Dodd and his Monday warriors in Division 4 went to Greenhills last week night and took home 2 points to maintain their top two place.

On Wednesday the ladies had a great 7 points to nil win over Kenilworth and they are well positioned in the top half of the table to put pressure on the teams above them.

Our Division 6 team made the long trek to Westmanstown in the evening traffic and were very unlucky on both rinks.

Damien’s lads have a game in hand on the leaders so keep it going gang.

Thursday saw all three Vets teams in action away from home. Vets 1 and Vets 3 were in Dun Laoghaire with contrasting fortunes as Vets 3 were victorious and Vets 1 were out of luck.

Vets 2 were away in Westmanstown and took 1 point back to Bray.

Saturday saw Division 1 make the long journey to Trim to play Meath and in a very exciting tussle the Royals took the spoils by 4.5 to 2.5. Bryon Dancer making his Division 1 bow this season had an impressive debut.

Division 2 were at home to neighbours Shankill and got a vital 5 points .

This week sees Division 4 idle and on Wednesday Division 6 are at home to Shankill and the ladies are away in Dun Laoghaire. Thursday sees Vets 1 idle.

Vets 2 and 3 are at home to Greenhills and Greystones respectively.

Both Divisions 1 and 2 have no game this coming Saturday.and the ladies are away in Blackrock.

Finally thanks to all those who helped out last week when a group of bowlers from Florida visited.

The recent lotto winners were Brendan Duffy, Colm Heaslip and Dave McMahon.

Both Brendan and Colm were winning for the second time. Where is the justice in that!!!!!!

Well done to all the boys and girls who played and played the games in a very sporting manner. Finally well done to everyone for all their assistance throughout the competition and here’s to the MWC 2018 next season.

At the recent AGM of the WDSL it was decided courtesy of a vote to move the WDSL season to a calendar season.

This means a year ahead of a directive from the FAI that the WDSL will have a “short season” followed by a “long season”.

The “short season” will start beginning of September 2017 and finish the end of November 2017. The new season or long season will commence end of February/ beginning of March 2018 and will finish in November 2018.

There will be breaks during the course of the season to facilitate state exams etc. We will post further details as we get them. Also in another initiative and also due to the amount of girls playing throughout the WDSL the league are looking at setting a girl’s league at U12 and U14 and if this venture proves successful the league will look to extend it to all age groups.

The proposal is to run the girls football every two weeks and all players can double up on their mixed team within their club. Again as we get more information we will post it here.

We have three players celebrating a birthday this coming week and they are Albie Chance from the Under 8’s and Jack Coughlan and Martin Reinhardt from the Under 11’s.

Happy birthday lads from everyone at Newtown Juniors F.C.

For further information on all matters “Newtown Juniors F.C.” please contact the Secretary at 0876987653 or by email to hughienolan@gmail.com & you can also follow the club on our Facebook & Twitter pages.
