WIMBLEDON, BBC1, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.

IT used to be weather permitting, but with a roofed centre court, the action will take place regardless of what the weather has in store.

In years gone by, the start of Wimbledon, would signal the start of street tennis by children the length and breadth of the country, but the demand for new balls seems much more leisurely these days, as children have electronic gadgets to occupy their imaginations.

The two singles finals are centre stage on centre court over the weekend, with the ladies final on Saturday, followed by the mens action on Sunday afternoon.
