Sunbeam boss Hannigan resigns for new CEO role

-

THE managing director of Sunbeam House Services (SHS) John Hannigan is to resign from his role to take up a new appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Circle Voluntary Housing Association.

The news was announced this week on the Dublin-based organisation’s website.

Mr Hannigan has held the top job at Sunbeam House Services since 2010 and will take up his new role on September 18.

His departure will see a new managing director take over the implementation of an action plan formulated in respose to the HSE Assurance Review into complaints handling and governance at the organisation which supports adults with intellectual disabilities.

As part of the plan, which is to be implemented over a nine month period, a review of the complaints policy and systems is to take place as well as a review of the training and role of managers.

There will also be changes to the board, with chairman Donal O’Brien due to step down at the end of August.

Mr O’Brien said that he will be stepping down at this time ‘for personal reasons’ having served seven years on the Board, five as the chairperson.

At this time a new, external chairperson is to be appointed.

Speaking in relation to changes to management and the board, Minister Simon Harris that he understands that ‘ the HSE are now working with Sunbeam House Services to implement significant changes to the management and board structure.’

He confirmed that Gordon Jeyes, who carried out the initial Assurance Review, will be carrying out a further investigation.

‘I have worked with family representatives and the advocacy group throughout this process in order to ensure all concerns are properly handled and investigated quickly.

Minister Harris said that Mr Jeyes made a number of recommendations in his review and that these are being acted upon through the action plan.

‘Mr Jeyes has agreed to carry out a further investigation into the 33 safeguarding complaints identified through his original report. Deloitte are carrying out an audit of personal finances and also a value for money audit on the service as a whole. Monthly meetings are now taking place to monitor the progress of the next steps action plan,’ he said.
