THAT’S OUR GIRL!
FAMILY and friends of boxing champion Daina Moorehouse gathered outside her Heatherwood home last Tuesday evening to welcome her home and celebrate her great victory.
The 15 year old had taken a gold medal in the Europeaan Youth Boxing Championships in Bulgaria.
As well as relatives and neighbours, Daina was joined by members of the club and many friends to mark the happy occasion, take photos and congratulate the athlete.
The level-headed teenager took everything in her stride last week as the victory in Bulgaria brought with it lots of attention from the press, on social media and around Bray.
Her coach at Enniskerry Boxing Club Paul O’Toole addressed the crowd last Tuesday and told them how hard Daina had worked, and how proud he is of what she has achieved.
Her uncle made t-shirts with her image on the front, which her family wore with pride.
An uncle got a cake, and there was much merriment as Daina was cheered on and applauded at her home ground.
Daina’s mum Melissa said that there had been massive support for the boxer in the area. She added that the neighbours were first out when they came home, and helped get everything set up for her.
The gold medalist is currently enjoying some time off with her friends in the fine weather before she goes back to training again in a couple of weeks.
Daina’s parents Melissa and John, her brother Michael and many other members of her family were at the event.
