£30m road project will be a big boost

THE UPGRADING of west Wicklow’s national road route, the N81, at a cost of an estimated £30 million, looks set to bring an economic boom to the area.

The upgrading of the 30 mile stretch of road was agreed as part of the deal between Deputy Mildred Fox and new Taoiseach Bertie Ahern during the formation of the new Government.

Work on the road is set to begin shortly. As well as the upgrade of the N81, there has been a widespread welcome for a sub-office of Wicklow County Council in the Blessington area.

The new office3 will mean greater accessibility to locals for such services as motor tax, housing, rates and various other needs which can now be carried out locally.

Both major west Wicklow projects will come before Wicklow County Council for discussion.
