TIDY TOWN NOTES

A huge effort has been made over the past months to have the village and approach roads looking well. A number of men have been doing hard work trimming the verges and ditches on the road towards Glendalough over a number of evenings and it looks very well. The existing flower beds have been tidied up in the village and a new one has been created behind the bus shelter. Work is ongoing to have signage in the village tidied up too. A picnic bench has been donated by Wesley Atkinson, Parks and Wildlife and is positioned on the Glendalough side of the Green opposite Lynhams. Tim Delamere has prepared a template of planned inscriptions to be put on the granite stones and this to be approved by the council prior to placement. On June 19, fifth and sixth class from Scoil Chaoimhín Naofa visited the village community garden to see what is planted there and on their way also collected any rubbish that was around. Residents continue to keep rubbish picked up around their homes and this in turn encourages visitors to bring their litter home or to use the bins in the village. The work is ongoing but on the first Tuesday of each month everyone is encouraged to meet across from Lynhams at 7.30 p.m. to clean up and plan any further improvements.
