WATERFORD WICKLOW 6-08 1-09

WALSH PARK, Waterford was Saturday’s venue for Wicklow’s visit to the Deise for their Round 4 Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Premier Junior Championship clash.

Both sides came to this after painful encounters with heavy hitters Westmeath and Dublin.

Waterford had also seen Offaly score strongly against them.

In this, their final group game, they set out to salvage something from their campaign.

The first half showed Waterford to be the superior side as they chalked up three goals.

Wicklow showed more promise at times in this match and found the net which had been quite elusive in earlier games. Half-time score. Waterford 3-2 Wicklow 1-3.

Waterford, sensing blood, pushed on to the final whistle. Full-time score: Waterford 6-8, Wicklow 1-9.

A bruising campaign for Wick- low continues. However, it is important to note small advances, as on this occasion Laura Manley’s scoreboard rights being usurped by two colleagues: Laura Manley 0-6, Kelly O’Neill 1-2, Shauna Keogh 0-1. Waterford had nine names on the scoresheet by full-time.

Waterford’s championship is finished. Congratulations to them as they start to plan for next year. Wicklow play Offaly in the last group game at an Offaly venue next Saturday.

Wicklow: Bernie Byrne, Denise Walsh, Nora O’Neill, Shannagh Goetelen, Sarah Forde, Claire Byrne, Tanya Carter, Laura Manley, Sile Whelan, Shauna Keogh, Sheenagh Byrne, Aoife Weir, Kelly O’Neill, Hannah O’Neill, Katie Daynes, Sarah Tallon, Aisling Shannon, Lynn Fenton, Grace O Neill.
