Kilcoole get off to a flier

KILCOOLE STRATFORD-GRANGECON 4-14 0-03

KILCOOLE opened their long over due Junior ‘C’ championship game in sunny Kilcoole on Thursday night against Stratford.

While Kilcoole were favourites for this game, they were hampered by the loss of two of their star defenders to the Junior ‘A’ team the previous week!

However, this did not effect the performance of the east coast based club, as they ran out easy winners over their western counter parts.

The result of this game was never in doubt from early on as Jay Walsh rattled the back of the net following a flowing move down the field after on three minutes.

Both teams then traded points before two quick fire goals from Kilcoole’s athletic midfielder Patrick Woods, put serious daylight between the teams on the score board.

The half-time score was 3-06 to 0-02 to Kilcoole. The Goosebank side didn’t let up in second half, with Jay Walsh notching his second goal of the night to put this game to bed once and for all.

In fairness to Stratford, they never gave up and fought manfully to the end.

The final whistle, from Bray native Chris Barnes was greeted with rapturous applause from the sizeable Kilcoole support present!
