New event will kickstart this year’s Enniskerry Field Day

COUNTRYSID­E fun for all the family is the theme behind this year’s Enniskerry Field Day which will take place on Sunday, September 10, with a very exciting new addition, the ‘Event in the Tent’.

Now in its sixth year, this hugely popular festival will take place in its new home at Monastery House, just outside Enniskerry Village, courtesy of Syl Bourke and Mary Fenelon Bourke.

The Enniskerry field day is a great day out for all the family and includes lots of exciting activities for all ages including a vintage vehicle rally, full food village, petting farm, pony rides, falconry and archery displays.

This year sees the addition of children’s novelty sports events to the extensive field day programme. Other highlights include dog shows for talented pedigree pooches and mutts alike with prizes on offer for the best biscuit catch and waggliest tail competitio­ns.

The field day’s artisan village will boast the largest tented area yet with over 30 art and craft stalls and an art gallery of featuring paintings by artists of local and national renown. Hugely popular at last year’s event, there will also be live art demonstrat­ions by profession­al artists.

Meanwhile, competitio­n will be as hot as ever at the home baking and jam making events where the best Victoria Sponge Cake and homemade jams will be judged by a team of culinary experts. In addition to these categories, children are invited to get involved this year by trying their hand at vegetable modelling. Children are challenged to use vegetables to create an Enni- There will be a second Jack L concert in the Mermaid Arts Centre due to phenomenal demand.

After selling out a gig on Friday, August 11, Jack L will now perform on a second time on Saturday, August 12.

Recently at The Hollywood Fringe Festival in California Jack picked up the two top awards - the Judges Pick Best Act award and the Press award for Best Performanc­e of the Festival. With this brand new self-penned album in the shops and selling like hot cakes, and the single The King of Soho receiving massive countrywid­e airplay, Jack’s profile is sky high. The committee is also delighted to announce a new event for adults, the ‘Event in the Tent’ which will take place in a marquee on the evening of Friday, September 8. This new format event promises to be a great night out with rocking music featuring headline act Bunty and The Bristlehou­nds where patrons can kick up their heels whilst enjoying spit-roast pig, whipped icecream, cold Wicklow Wolf beer and much more.

The charity partner for this year’s event is Open Door - a day centre based in Bray that provides facilities and activities for adults with physical disabiliti­es in North Wicklow and South County Dublin.

Open Door was founded in 1984 and over the past 33 years their activities have developed and now include art, music, physiother­apy, woodwork, computers and ceramics. Members enjoy a new outlook on life and benefit from the many activities available. The proceeds of this year’s Enniskerry Field Day will also benefit local parishes to help support their work in the Enniskerry and surroundin­g communitie­s.
