Thirty jobs goat Sol us
August 1983
LAST week’s shock announcement of a massive increase in Bray’s jobless total has been followed by more bad news on the local employment front. It has been learned that about 30 at Solus Teo - one of the largest and oldest industrial concerns - are to be laid off by the end of this month. The workers, who are employed in the production of telephone and plastic signs, are mostly members of the Workers Union of Ireland.
The union’s full time representative in Bray could not be contacted about the matter this week as he was away on holidays. No comment was available from the management of Solus either.
The job losses at Solus represent another major blow for jobs in Bray, which has been reeling from continuous heavy increases in the unemployment total over the past two years.
The latest figures have shown an increase of over four per cent in just one month, the biggest jump this year. Over the past year the total has gone up by almost 25 per cent.
