Alpha/In-Between Book Club: There are no Book Club meetings till September. The three books for summer reading are: ‘Once we were Sisters’, a memoir by Shiela Koehler; ‘Circling the Sun’, a novel by Paula McLain, and ‘The Stars are Fire’, by Anita Shreve. Meetings will re-commence on Tuesday, September 26, The Thursday Group: No meetings in August.
Date for your Diary: The Rathmichael Parish and School Fête will take place in the grounds of Rathmichael National School on Saturday, September 2, from midday to 4 p.m.
ST ANNE’S PARISH
Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmation certificates or application forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificates and application forms can be processed.
Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confessions are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannesparishshankill.com and then clicking onto video link.
Evening Mass: Please note that there will be No Evening Masses for the months of August and September. Evening Mass will resume on Monday, October 2, summer Weekday Church Hours: St Anne’s Church will close at the following times over the summer months (August to October 1) Monday to Thursday at 4.45 p.m. and on Friday at 2.45 p.m.
St Patrick’s Chapel, Loughlinstown: The celebration of the Sunday 9 a.m. Mass has now ceased in the Chapel and will resume when essential maintenance has been completed.
Baptism Times: Baptisms take place in St Anne’s Church at 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month and at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. A month’s notice is required. Please contact the St Anne’s parish office located in St Anne’s Resource Centre to make your arrangements. Please note that when visiting the parish office to arrange a baptism, the child’s birth certificate should be brought as it necessary to photocopy it for the parish records but it will be returned immediately.
Pre-Baptism Meetings: Pre-Baptism Meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month for parents presenting their children for baptism the following month.
Room Hire – St Anne’s Resource Centre: At present we have availability in the centre for room hire. If you are interested in running your class or course please contact Melissa Tobin at 01 2822777 for further information. Facilities include Free car park, tea or coffee, Use of whiteboard and projector, Flipchart Stands, three rooms available with capacity for 80 people, 25 people, or 15 people.
Hospitality: Hospitality after the 10.30 a.m. Mass on the second and fourth Sunday of the month has ceased and will resume on the last Sunday of September.
Male Voice Choir: We are currently recruiting a new choir in St St Anne’s. This choir is aimed at retired gentlemen of Shankill – we are also looking for musicians. Launching in December this year at the Christmas Carol Service. Rehearsals will take place during late September, October and November on Thursdays from 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. in the church. Free tea or coffee will be available after the 10.30 a.m. Mass on Thursday prior to rehearsal. If you would like to get involved as a singer or musician, please leave your name and mobile number in the parish office – call 01 2822277 – and your name will be added to the list for text message reminders and updates.
Ministry: We would like to encourage and appeal to parishioners to consider committing their time towards a Ministry in St Anne’s, beginning in September till June 2018. If interested contact the parish office to arrange Garda Vetting over the summer. Some examples are: Reader, Collector, Welcome Team, Hospitality Team, choir, Altar Society.
Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament: The UAC hold Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 22nd of each month. This is a worldwide initiative by the Pallottine Family to pray for vocations to the Priesthood and the Religious Life. Magnificat Prayer Book: August copies of the Magnificat Prayer Book are now available in the parish office for €6. It contains the readings and prayers for Mass for each day. It also contains meditations, lives of the Saints, and prayers for Morning and Evening based on the Liturgy of the Hours. Please let us know in the parish office if you would like us to reserve a copy each month for you.
Volunteers Needed: It is the competition judging season, please help Shankill Tidy Towns to keep the village looking well. We need volunteers to water plants on a rota once a fortnight. St Columcille’s Memorial Service: A memorial service to remember those who died in St Columcille’s Hospital from its earliest days as a workhouse in famine times or more recently as a caring hospital, will be held in the hospital cemetery at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, Altar Society: If you are interested in joining the Altar Society please call into the parish office.

BOOK SALE
Last Saturday morning the August First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Association and Meals on Wheels, took place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Shankill Old Folks Centre. Lower Road, Shankill, at which there was an excellent array of books, CDs and DVDs on offer at bargain prices.
The September First Saturday Book Sale will take place in the same venue between the same times on Saturday, September 2, so make a point of calling into the book sale on that Saturday morning and avail of the opportunity to pick up some excellent reading material for the autumn. It’s also a good time to pass the time till the Rathmichael Parish Fête commences at midday.
Donations of books, other than school/text books, accepted on the day. Please note that photographs and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.
SHANKILL LIBRARY
Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays. The library is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Two events in the coming week for members and supporters of the Rathmichael Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack, and surrounding area, are the Society’s 43rd summer series of Evening Lectures which will take place in Rathmichael School, Stonebridge Road, Shankill (Junction of Dublin Road and Stonebridge Road, Shankill) nightly at 8 p.m.

The other event is next Tuesday night’s 6.30 p.m. lecture in Dalkey Library, Castle Street, Dalkey, Co. Dublin, by Damien Burke, Archivist of the Irish Jesuit Archives on ‘The Life of Fr Willie Doyle, SJ’ Fr Doyle was born in Dalkey in 1873 and killed at the Third Battles of Ypres on August 13, 1917, while serving as a military chaplain.
