Lyrics by Bray’s Leigh in track for McGregor

-

A BRAY rapper features on a new track ‘Untouchable’ in honour of The Notorious, Conor McGregor.

Leigh Michael wrote the words of the song, working with producer Staz and trad musicians Gerry O’Donnell, Niamh O’Donnell, and James Mahon.

More than 5,000 people have viewed the song on YouTube since it was released at the weekend.

It’s been tweeted to McGregor himself, but Leigh doesn’t know if he’s seen it yet.

The song was penned in tribute to the fighter, who is set to take on boxer Floyd Mayweather next week.

‘Conor inspires me,’ said Leigh. ‘It’s mostly his determination and his will to succeed.’

He believes that McGregor will win the bout in LA.

A BRAY rapper has penned a tribute to Irish fighter Conor McGregor as the Dubliner prepares for his headline bout with Floyd Mayweather.

Leigh Michael has collaborated with producer Staz and trad musicians father and daughter Gerry and Niamh O’Donnell and James Mahon to create ‘Untouchable’ in tribute to McGregor.

The track has garnered thousands of views on Youtube since its release this week, and Leigh is hoping the man himself gets to hear it. They started working on the song in July, when Leigh wrote first draft of the lyrics within 24 hours.

McGregor is a source of inspiration for Leigh, who admires Conor’s belief in himself and determination to succeed.

‘We hope people will catch some of the inspiration from it that we feel from Conor McGregor,’ said Leigh, a resident of Seapoint Road.

‘Conor really inspires me. It’s mostly his determination and his will to succeed. Even from early interviews, you can see he’s so sure that this is what he wants, therefore he’s going to go after it,’ said Leigh.

‘ The message I get is that you go after what you want. You can do what people say you can’t do. To paraphrase McGregor, if someone says you can’t do something, you’re almost obliged to go out and do it, take action and put the work in.’

The producer emailed Leigh the idea, and the rapper got to work. He took out his pad, wrote the first verse, and sent it back to Staz. The next morning he wrote the second two verses, then later there was some editing to tighten it up.

Gerry and Niamh played the fiddle, flute, and whistle, while James played pipes, on what is a battle-cry of a song.

Paris native Staz recorded and arranged the music. Frenchman Staz is Niamh’s partner and they life in Wolfe Tone.

‘I hope he does get to hear it and see the video,’ said Leiigh. ‘Even if he just heard it once and it made him smile, even if I never knew about it, that would be great.’

Leigh is looking forward to the most talked-about fight in generations next Saturday, when The Notorious takes on Floyd Mayweather.

‘I think Conor is going to do it,’ he said. ‘His self belief is a powerful ally in any endeavour. The fact that so many people are doubting him is fuelling him.’
