Youth Service tips on how to celebrate safely
AS the Leaving Certificate class of 2017 prepares to collect the long-awaited results, East Wicklow Youth Service has issued some sound advice on celebrating responsibly and safely.
The waiting game is over and for many young school-leavers, the main thing on their mind this ( Wednesday) evening will be how they will celebrate the occasion.
For those who are not keen of the pub scene or those who want to start their evening with some food in their stomach, Crosscare’s East Wicklow Youth Service/The Vault is holding a free event tonight ( Wednesday, August 16) from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. for Leaving Cert students.
There will be pizza, an ice cream van and a DJ in action. Even if the Vault is just the first stop on the way out, it is recommended that people eat before a night on the town.
Other tips to increase the likelihood of a safe night out minus ‘ the fear’ the next day are: decide how much to drink before going out – this decision will work in your favour when the night is in full swing and inhibitions are reduced; Drink a glass of water in between each alcoholic drink; Make sure to have sufficient phone credit or a taxi ordered, and keep taxi money in a safe place for later in the night; Never find yourself alone – make an agreement with friends before going out.
Once the celebrations are over, the youth service’s information officer Paul Murphy can assist young people with any queries relating to applications and grants. To contact Paul, ring the East Wicklow Youth Service office on 0402 39646.
