Hollywood too strong for Lacken

HOLLYWOOD took the spoils in this Philip Doyle Junior B football championsh­ip with a demolition job over a luckless Lacken side on Thursday night last.

Dan Burke opened the scoring for the homeside with a point in the second minute as they hit the ground running. Keith Peppard landed the first major of the game in the next minute after good work by Thomas Kelly.

Sean Murphy was unlucky when his long range effort deflected wide off the upright in Lacken’s first attack.

James Mooney laid of a great pass to Brian Flynn who dispatched the ball to the net with the homeside’s next attack.

John Burke was in lethal form as he notched up two quick points, as Hollywood were in full flight, to close out the opening quarter leading by five points to no score.

Paul Phibbs was fouled going through and Sean Murphy tapped over the free for Lacken’s first score in the 17th minute to break Hollywood’s momentum.

James O Neill added another point for the visitors after great work by Connor Phibbs. Lacken were growing into the game at this stage and notched on a brace of points from Sean Murphy to reduce the deficit to six points with five minutes left in the opening half.

However, back came the home-side with a strong finish with smashing points from James Mooney, Philip Dunne and Gary Tutty.

Thomas Kelly handpassed off to Dan Burke who pointed. Daniel Griffin found the on running Paddy Nolan with a great pass and Nolan added a point via the upright as we went into injury time with the half-time whistle sounding with the score reading 2-10 to 0-05 for Hollywood.

Manager Paul Clarke brought on a couple of subs and made a couple of defining tactical changes for the restart whereas Lacken manager Lorcan Clarke had only the bare 15 to work with.

However, it was Sean Murphy who had the opening score with a point on the restart after great work by Darragh Byrne.

Thomas Kelly fisted the next score over the bar as Hollywood rose up a gear. Lacken were attacking strong but full-back Stephen Burke was clearing a lot of ball for the homeside.

John Burke landed a long range point with a sweet left footed shot. Hollywood dominated proceeding­s for the next period to end the game as a contest with Andrew Corrigan rising another green flag for the home-side after good work by Philip Dunne.

Lacken battled away valiantly. Both sides picked up a couple of yellow cards for indiscipli­ne. James O’Neill pointed for Lacken after a good passage of play started by James Maguire. John Burke tagged on another couple of points as Hollywood increased their score difference.

Colin Tutty added on a brace of points to close out the scoring for the home-side.

Daniel Grittith pointed Lacken’s final score of the game in added time. Hollywood will meet neighbours Blessingto­n in the next round, looking to consolidat­e a spot in the knock-out stages of this championsh­ip.
