Decision soon on new Jehovah’s prayer centre
August 1988
A decision by Arklow Urban Council is due shortly on an application from the Jehovah Witnesses to provide a prayer centre in the town.
Eighty-eight people from the South Green area have signed a petition to the council objecting - mainly on religious and parking grounds - to the prayer centre going there.
The proposal is to site the prayer centre in an area of South Green known as ‘ The Garden’, changing the use of an existing building.
Town Hall officials, who were supplied with the additional information they sought from the applicants, said that a decision in the matter would be made shortly.
A lobby, kitchen and toilet facilities will be incorporated within the 100 sq metres building.
