THE kids will be back to school soon, so let’s get them off to a good start for the year. The best way to do this is with good food and nutrition. But, how many kids eat their greens or oily fish?

I meet parents every day whose kids are fussy eaters. If your kid is not a good eater then you could top up their diet with natural supplements to prevent nutritional deficiencies. Take a look at Floradix, Terra Nova, and Viridian these companies use quality ingredients and never use artificial flavourings, colourings, or fillers. And will provide them with extra nutrients to help keep them healthy.

If they don’t eat oily fish, nuts or seeds then make sure to give them an Omega Oil supplement. Eskimo Kids tutti fruitti Oil contains a balance of omega 3, omega 6 and omega 9 fatty acids and has a pleasant fruity flavour. Natures Aid Omega 3 fish oil is lemon flavoured. Some children will prefer Nordic Natural Ultimate Omega Junior as this is a great tasting chewable gel.

Supplements to fight off winter bugs include

Comvita Olive Leaf

Extract, vitamin C, vitamin D, Sambucol, and A.Vogel

Echinacea for the older children.

Certain strains of good gut bacteria can decrease the risk of common childhood infections especially ear, nose and throat disorders, if taken for a couple of months. There are many good probiotics to choose from. OptiBac Probiotics ‘For babies & children’ is one for this occasion. Each pack contains 3 billion good gut bacteria and FOS fibre which helps the good bacteria to survive and grow. There is lots of research on this product showing the effectiveness on the immune response. It can also help improve vitamin absorption and reduce the likelihood of developing food intolerances.

If they’re anxious about starting school they could take Jan De Vries Emergency Essence or Higher Nature Balance for Nerves, depending on the age. These supplements can calm and aid relaxation. Try having your meals together so that you can chat about how their day went while you’re eating. This could help keep you alert to what’s going on in their lives so that you can act quickly if you notice any changes in their mood.

I hope that these tips get your kids off to a good start this year.
