Lots to do on Culture Night 2017

THERE IS A wide variety of events taking place across Wicklow on Culture Night, September 22.

Culture Night Wicklow was launched last week and there are a total of 34 creative and engaging events for all ages will be taking place across County Wicklow on the night.

Every year on Culture Night, hundred of artists, arts workers and people passionate about all kinds of cultural activities volunteer their time to create enjoyable and thought-provoking events, and this year is no exception.

Activities are on offer in all kinds of places, from stately homes to Men’s Sheds. Culture Night gives everyone the opportunit­y to get involved. Whether it’s listening to stories and song, meeting artists, going dancing, or rolling up your sleeves and getting messy, there’s something for everyone.

Some of the events taking place include Morning Storytime with author Carmel Uí Cheallaigh in Greystones Library at 11 a.m. where she will read her stories for 4-7 years olds in Irish and English.

There will be two Social Drama workshops for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and special educationa­l needs at Russboroug­h House. Russboroug­h also has a host of other events for all ages on throughout the evening, including art workshops with ReCreate. See culturenig­ht.ie for details.

Wicklow-based sculptor Helen O’Connell will be at the Mermaid Arts Centre where she will be working on installing her exquisite stone sculptures in the gallery.

The singing group Sacred Sounds will be in Arklow Library, delving into the vast repertoire of songs from South Korea and China from 7 p.m. Other events in the library include readings by authors Lisa Harding and Anthony Cannon, and a bodhrán workshop.
