Bray People

A fantastic experience, says Abby

THE JOURNEY to the Rose of Tralee came to an end for Wicklow Rose Abby McKenna this week as she narrowly missed out on a place in the televised finals.

However, Abby said that the whole experience of the Wicklow selection and taking part in the festival was one that she will never forget.

‘Getting into the televised part was never the main aim for me and to be honest meeting so many new people and being a part of the overall festival were the highlights,’ said 22-year-old Abby.

She said that she is looking forward to enjoying the finals as the pressure is now off.

‘I’m delighted for all the girls who got through. Their places are well deserved,’ she said.

The Redcross resident who will be starting a Digital Marketing course in Bray next month will continue to hold the Wicklow Rose title until next year.

Traditionally the Wicklow Rose is in hot demand at community and charity functions throughout the county during her term so Abby is set for a busy year ahead, juggling college and her Rose duties.

Abby was paired with escort John Murphy from Galway for the week and enjoyed a trip around Ireland as part of the Rose Tour.
