Sumo suits at the ready for annual run

A SUMO suit will be the only outfit to be seen in this weekend as Purple House Cancer Support’s annual Sumo Run takes place.

Thousands are expected to don the sumo suit in aid of the charity for this fun event, which will see a sea of sumo warriors wash over the seafront from noon this Sunday, August 27.

Happy Pear twins Dave and Steve Flynn joined TV presenter Sinead Dempsey on the beach in Bray to warm up for the 5km charity walk or run, which is completed in an inflatable sumo suit.

The entry fee is €40 for an individual (€20 if they have a suit from a previous run) or €144 for a team of four.

Children are over seven can enter but there is a height restrictio­n of 1.2m.

The aim of the sumo run is to raise funds to support families in Ireland affected by cancer.
