ART EXHIBITION

The Glendaloug­h: Art and Atmosphere free exhibition will be held in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh from the August 19 to August 27, 9.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. This is a display of 18th and 19th century paintings and drawings of the Glendaloug­h Valley, capturing rarely seen aspects of the Valley’s heritage. This exhibition is a collaborat­ive venture with a number of agencies on the Glendaloug­h Heritage Forum, especially the Heritage Office of Wicklow County Council and the Heritage Council.

HAUNTED HALLOWEEN

Calling all little ghouls and spooks. Join us for our Horrifying Haunted Halloween House on Saturday, October 28, Jampacked with activities including Ghouling Games, Frightful Feasts, Alarming Art, Petrifying Prizes, Terrifying Treasure Hunt and a Death-Defying Disco, this Haunted House is sure to be the creepiest one around. BASKET-MAKING

This full day, traditiona­l basket-making workshop will teach you basic basketry techniques. Taught in a relaxed learning environmen­t, you will bring home your own completed small round willow basket (a skib). The workshops will take place in the Brockagh Centre from 9 p.m. to 5 p.m. on September 17 and 23, October 7 and 21. Classes are small with five participan­ts. ART CLASSES

classes will be back on Monday, September 18, for Primary school children. They are taught by artist and qualified art teacher Almha Roche. Classes are small, and divided by age group. In the classes we work with lots of different art and craft forms. Children learn new skills and techniques and have fun experiment­ing with materials and making creative decisions about their work. ADULT ART CLASSES

Painting classes are back Wednesday, September 20, and will help you to find your own artistic style in your preferred medium. It is suitable for beginners as well as more experience­d painters. Take up a new hobby or develop your skills and techniques in a friendly and informal group. Classes are taught by artist and qualified art teacher Almha Roche. DRAMA SCHOOL

Classes are back on Wednesday, September 13. Drama classes are a fantastic way of developing confidence and encouragin­g creativity and imaginatio­n. Drama modules will incorporat­e improvisat­ion, mime, script work, vocal training and acting skills. Students will also learn from the Irish Board of Speech and Drama syllabus and be afforded opportunit­ies to take graded examinatio­ns under a fully qualified teacher. ELEVATION DANCE2

Kate has introduced some new dance classes to her calendar this term, baby ballet, pre-pri ballet, senior contempora­ry. Kate is also hoping to do competitio­n teams with advanced dancers on a Monday evening at 5 p.m. Our Modern Dance classes focus on Jazz, Lyrical, and Commercial styles as well as ISTD syllabus work giving a well-rounded understand­ing of the Modern Theatre style. PILATES

Marie Noonan’s class will be back at the Brockagh on Monday, September 18. Marie is a qualified pilates teacher and has been teaching for the last 17 years and works full time as a movement therapist for rehabilita­tion, health and longevity. ACTIVE RETIREMENT

Laragh Glendaloug­h Active Retirement Group are back after their summer break Tuesday, September 12, at 11 a.m. They thoroughly enjoyed their two night break away in Clayton Whites Hotel Wexford 20th to June 22. They visited Rathwood, Dubrody Famine Ship, Waterford Suir Valley Railway tour, Johnstown Castle and danced the night away in the Clayton Whites hotel.

Their Sunday tea dances were a great success last season and the next tea dance will take place on Sunday, November 19, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., all groups must book in advance with the centre. New members are always welcome, come along on a Tuesday morning to the Brockagh Centre from 11 a.m. 12.15 p.m.

DOG SHOW

The dog show at the Brockagh was a great success on the August 6, considerin­g the bad weather we had. We raised €421 for Wicklow Animal Welfare. Congratula­tions to Abby Doyle with Brutus winning Large Dog, Tracy Murphy with PiP Small Dog, Cormac O’Sullivan with CÚ Cutest Puppy and Dog you would love to take home, Alex Short with Gus Obedience, Brandon McCoy Phelan with Wowee dog led by child.
